Ramblings From a Restless Mind

Summer Game Fest Thoughts

It is once again June and that means Summer Game Fest. We got the main show, Day of the Devs, PC Gamer show, and Xbox (not got touch on them cause BDS Movement boycott). And then a few days before Playstation announced their own showcase taking place two days prior SGF. There was also a bunch of other showcases and events across the weekend but I didn’t have the time to tune into those.

Playstation State of Play

Personally this was my favorite of the all the showcases I watched. Glad to see what Grasshopper Manufacturer is working on next with Romeo is a Deadman. Silent Hill f and 007 First light both look really cool and can’t wait see more gameplay from them. Nice to see that Pragmata is still alive and kicking and Final Fantasy Tactics is finally getting a remaster.

Loved all the fighting game news with a Mortal Kombat kollection, an official Sony fightstick, and Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls from Arksys Works. Speaking of Marvel, that game broke my brain. What do you mean there’s a new Marvel tag fighter without Capcom involved, what do you mean Arksys is the one making it, what do you mean its 4v4. It looks awesome and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Hopefully more stuff gets shown off at Evo cause I cannot wait til 2026.

Summer Game Fest Main Show

This show was pretty alright. There was just something about it that felt lacking this year. Honestly it might have the the fact there was no Ubisoft, EA, or any other major third party devs outside of Capcom and smidge of Sega. A lot of the big game announcements here weren’t really aimed at my me as well.

Glad that Mina the Hollower got a release date (and a demo). Out of Words looks to continue the trend of neat co-op platformers. Acts of Bloods is a really cool action brawler game. Drinkbox Studios showed off their next game in Blighted. RGG gave us more gameplay of Project Century and showed off the game's actual title which is Stranger than Heaven.

Capcom really stole the show for me though. I thought the skit with Kenny Omega to show off the next season of Street Fighter was pretty funny. Really excited to see C.Viper and Alex back. Resident Evil Requiem has the potential to be spectacular. I mean the fact that it teases that you could be going through destroyed Raccoon City is an awesome premise. Don’t know how I feel on a new lead character just yet, but I like that she already has ties to past Resident Evil games.

Day of the Devs

Always love to see what the indie devs are up to and this was a great showcase overall. Big Walk looks to be a great time with a group of friends. Snap and Grab is a new stealth game for me to sink my teeth into. We got an extended look at Sword of the Sea from the creators of Journey. And then Pocket Boss is a weird collection of mini-games with office job motif.

PC Gamer Show

About what I expected from a PC Gamer show. I felt there was way more than usual games that involved city building and survival crafting. There was still a decent number of games that I found interesting. Some games I found notable were Spooky Express a horror themed puzzle game, Generation Exile a city builder with an interesting story, Voyagers of Nera an action adventure game set in a world of islands. Ultrakill is getting a new update soon and a teasing at the one following. Love Eternal a precision platformer with a psychological horror twist. Eclipsium a game that have no clue whats its about but man the graphics direction is wild.
